Duncan watched her go, wincing as the door slammed shut behind her. “Damn it!”

Jared sighed and started to get dressed again. “She’s going to bolt the first chance she gets. Christ, she’s injured and sore and all we’ve done is fuck her brains out.”

Seeing the self disgust on Jared’s face, Duncan grimaced. “Yeah, but damn it, what the hell does she expect when she’s holding back? Doesn’t she realize that only makes us crazy and desperate to have it all? If we don’t get through to her soon, she’s going to leave and start avoiding us again. The only times we’ve been able to reach her is through sex and tenderness, and she still tries to hold back.”

Jared buttoned his shirt, shrugging. “I have no fucking clue what’s going on in that hard head, except that she’s doing her best to avoid any emotional tangles. She wants what we can do for her sexually and that’s it.” He grinned. “But her temper snaps whenever we get too close. With the way she’s been snapping at us lately, I’d say we’re making progress.”

Duncan frowned at the closed bathroom door. “I figured that out already. But why the hell is she fighting it so hard? She has to see how much we care about her. She responds like she was made for us, and I see the way she looks at you and Reese when you’re not looking.”

Jared nodded. “When you’re not paying attention, she looks at you like she’s starving for you.”

Duncan grinned. “That’s how she looks at you two.” His smile fell. “Then what’s the fucking problem?”

Jared sat down to pull on socks. “I don’t know, but now we’ve pissed her off so she won’t talk to us. Let’s get out of here and leave her with Reese. We’ll tell him what’s going on and go work outside. She talks to him easier than she talks to either of us.”

Duncan threw on his own clothes. “I don’t like that either. She should be able to come to all of us.”

Jared stood and started out the door. “I know. I know. But our main priority now is keeping her safe. Let’s get Reese to calm her down. We’ll get her to talk to us. One problem at a time. Jesus.”
